CRIME NEWS

  • Bryan man Jontae Webber was sentenced to 35 years in prison by Judge John Brick for an armed robbery at a College Station convenience store in February 2023—tracking devices hidden with the stolen items led police to him.  WTAW
  • On March 16th just before 5 p.m., Bryan Police responded to a disturbance on Pecan Knoll St. where 30-year-old Trey Deshaun Burleson from College Station threatened his mother with a knife and was arrested on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon while facing his 12th jail stint in eleven years.  WTAW
  • A Bryan man, Jontae Webber, was sentenced to 35 years on March 7th after a jury convicted him for an armed robbery at a College Station convenience store on February 12th when police used a hidden tracking device to find his apartment and recover stolen items.  WTAW
  • On Monday, a 21-year-old Hempstead man was arrested outside Northgate during a St. Patrick’s Day celebration when two off-duty College Station officers found him highly intoxicated and carrying a handgun — he has been charged with public intoxication and unlawful carry of a weapon and is out on a $5,300 bond.  WTAW

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today at 9 a.m. TxDOT's contractor Knife River Corporation will install a large sign for the FM 2818 project that will temporarily close the southbound Wellborn Road direct connect ramp and redirect traffic to Bush Dr for about three hours.—This work is part of a 3.2-mile upgrade to improve safety, capacity, and reduce congestion on FM 2818 at a total cost of $47.6 million.  WTAW

SPORTS NEWS

  • Texas A&M’s Emiley Kennedy threw a one-hit shutout in a 3-0 win over No. 22 Auburn Sunday afternoon at Jane B. Moore Field — she threw 96 pitches and struck out three batters — to give the team its sweep. Texas A&M will host No. 23 Alabama for a three-game series starting March 21 at Davis Diamond.  WTAW
  • Texas A&M men's golf freshman Alex Long finished Monday at the All American Individual tied for eighth with a score of 3 over par 147 after shooting rounds of 76 in the morning and 71 in the afternoon — his teammates Jack Usner and Jake Maggert tied for 11th and 18th; the tournament's third round starts today at 8 a.m.  WTAW
  • Texas A&M’s Jaiya Covington won the 60m hurdles national title with a new school record of 7.90 seconds on Saturday at the Virginia Beach Sports Center. The Aggies finished with 27 points on the women’s side and will start their outdoor season at the UTSA Invitational on March 21-22.  WTAW
