BUSINESS NEWS

  • On Friday, about 25 people from Texas A&M University visited The Break Room in Bryan to let off stress by smashing items—a unique rage room experience. Owner Garland Crabb said the venue offers several options like a paint room and car smash station, and guests must spend at least $35 while using strict safety measures.  The Eagle

EDUCATION NEWS

  • At the March meeting of the Texas A&M faculty senate on March 17, Paul Batista, the faculty athletic representative, gave a report on student-athlete academic performance, the athletic department's finances, and the impact of a proposed settlement in a federal lawsuit over paying student-athletes—points that may influence future decisions at the university.  WTAW

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • At their March 18 meeting, Brazos County commissioners approved contracts for a new office building across Texas Avenue from the courthouse and to buy a building across Villa Maria from Bryan Collegiate High School for 9-1-1 operations. The deals include a $50 million construction contract, a $4.5 million design contract, and a $2.25 million purchase—county judge Duane Peters said the 9-1-1 center’s renovation costs will be covered by its agency.  WTAW
  • During a March 18th meeting, Bryan city council approved a reimbursement plan from the city-county economic development foundation to rebuild Mumford Road into three lanes so that new industries and the ISD career center can serve the north side of town—this plan will help improve traffic flow and safety. The council also awarded a $655,700 contract to design Leonard Road into a three lane street with curbs and gutters between Harvey Mitchell Parkway and the roundabout.  WTAW
  • State Rep. Paul Dyson filed House Bill 5489 this week—proposing a four-year pause on impact fees for new housing construction in Texas until the end of August 2029—to lower housing costs. The bill now moves through the legislative process and will need Gov. Greg Abbott’s signature before it takes effect on Sept. 1, 2029.  The Eagle
  • Bryan Police advised motorists that a right turn on red is no longer allowed at the intersection by the post office on Nash — William Joel Bryan for freeway-bound traffic. Officer Seth Waller said that after issuing warnings, officers will start handing out tickets in about a week as drivers headed downtown can use a U-turn at Nash.  WTAW
