CRIME NEWS

  • A Bryan man was arrested Friday after police found 5g of crack cocaine in his coat during a traffic stop.  The Eagle
  • Two defendants have been sentenced in Brazos County plea agreements— a Bryan man on probation for a 2013 family violence aggravated assault admitted to 30 probation violations and received three years in prison with credit for time served while Houston's Zachary Guyton pleaded guilty to selling a stolen truck with an altered VIN and received eight years in prison.  WTAW
  • Bryan police arrested 48-year-old Michael Hopson on March 28 for possessing about $90,000 in cocaine and allegedly attacking a woman, while College Station officers arrested 19-year-old Aaron Bazy on March 27 for nearly 3 pounds of vacuum-sealed marijuana, with Hopson held on a $108,000 bond and Bazy released on a $5,000 bond.  WTAW

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Senate Bill 2361 proposes to move the University of Houston-Victoria to the Texas A&M system—allowing more courses in engineering and agribusiness for the area. The bill, filed by Lois Kolkhorst and backed by local leaders, will see the transfer take place on September 1 if approved and finalized by June 1.  WTAW
  • College Station city council approved a Brazos County Health District proposal to inspect public pools at hotels, apartment complexes and homeowners associations. A Bryan man who violated probation for a 2013 family violence aggravated assault was sentenced to three years in prison as part of a plea agreement—while a Houston man received eight years for selling a stolen truck with a fake title and altered VIN.  WTAW

SPORTS NEWS

  • Texas A&M baseball lost to Kentucky 10-5 on Sunday at Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park—Kentucky scored first and held a strong lead throughout the match. The Aggies will face Incarnate Word next Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the park.  WTAW
  • On Sunday, the No. 5 Texas A&M softball team swept LMU 12-0 at Davis Diamond. Mya Perez hit two home runs and Emiley Kennedy pitched a shutout in five innings, helping secure the win.  WTAW
  • Texas A&M’s swimmers and divers wrapped up the NCAA Championships with historic finishes—freshman Jaxon Bowshire finished as national runner-up on the platform and senior Rhett Hensley placed fourth, helping the team score 95.5 points for a 12th-place finish at the meet held Saturday night in Federal Way, Wash.  WTAW
