CRIME NEWS

  • A Bryan man named John Walker Jr. admitted to repeated probation violations for a 2013 assault and is now headed to prison for three years with credit for time served—while a Houston man, Zachary Guyton, pleaded guilty on March 7 to selling a stolen truck with an altered VIN and received an eight-year sentence after a multi-agency investigation.  WTAW
  • The Brazos County sheriff's office reported that on March 31 a 63-year-old inmate experienced a medical emergency and died at a local hospital—authorities noted no suspicious circumstances and the Texas Rangers will conduct an independent investigation.  WTAW
  • Bryan police arrested two out-of-town men for property crimes—Victorious Carrington, a 24-year-old from North Carolina, is in Brazos County jail for taking a display case holding Texas Lottery tickets from a local convenience store while Houston man Mikedrion Lister, aged 25, was arrested on March 25th for burglarizing Airbnb homes.  WTAW
  • A Bryan man in jail for allegedly shooting a police officer had a gun theft charge added Monday — police finished a second investigation.  The Eagle

EDUCATION NEWS

  • At their last meeting, the Bryan ISD school board approved two new courses that give high school students credit for community service, which will be added to the Career and Technical Education program. Superintendent Ginger Carrabine said the courses reflect work students already do outside class, and director Christina Richardson noted they may lead to full-time jobs and higher state funding.  WTAW

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Sunday, the Aggies defeated the Kentucky Wildcats 4-1 at the Mitchell Tennis Center - freshman Theo Papamalamis clinched a key win with a 7-5, 6-2 result on court 1. The team will travel to face Mississippi State tomorrow at 3 p.m. as they continue their season.  WTAW
  • Texas A&M softball’s Mya Perez was named SEC Player of the Week after a strong performance that saw her hit three home runs — she posted 11-for-14 with 13 RBI in five games. The sophomore earned her second weekly honor as her team reached its fourth win of the season.  WTAW
