CRIME NEWS

  • On April 7, multiple agencies and the Brazos County sheriff's office searched a home near the Brazos River west of Wellborn and arrested 56-year-old convicted felon Sonny Holligan for illegal possession of four rifles, a sawed off shotgun and about $300 of drugs; he remained in jail on bond totaling $90,000 as of April 8.  WTAW
  • Brazos County district attorney's office stopped a federal prison from releasing convict Justin Byrd—47 from Plantersville—before he began serving a 75-year state sentence for shooting a Bryan man, with a state judge issuing a bench warrant for his transfer to county jail and later state prison.  WTAW

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Bryan ISD's assistant superintendent and chief financial officer Kevin Beesaw will retire on July 1 after serving since April 2018. The school board approved Norma Friddle—formerly the CFO at Natalia ISD—as his successor at the April 7 meeting.  WTAW
  • Federal officials revoked visas and ended legal status for 9 international students at Texas A&M Monday, and the university said its International Student & Scholar Services has reached out to the affected students—support is being provided while questions remain on how the cases will be managed. This move follows a national pattern of visa revocations for international students.  My Aggie Nation
  • Texas A&M University saw its ranking rise after U.S. News and World Report released its 2025 Best Graduate School rankings Tuesday—bringing more academic good news to the school.  The Eagle

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Brazos County commissioners took additional steps Tuesday toward taking over the Roy Kelly Parking Garage on Texas Avenue between 26th and 27th streets in Bryan—aiming to shift parking management to the county soon.  The Eagle

SPORTS NEWS

  • Texas A&M track and field athletes Auhmad Robinson + Camryn Dickson were named SEC Runner of the Week after they ran very fast at the Florida Relays. Robinson set a personal best in the 400m and helped lead the 4x400 relay while Dickson won the 4x100 relay and ran the fastest wind-legal 100m time this season.  WTAW
  • The Texas A&M women’s golf team built a 15-shot lead after two rounds Monday at Traditions Club during the Mo Morial Invitational by shooting 23-over 592 against rivals ACU and Northern Colorado. Head Coach Gerrod Chadwell said the windy course made play tough — the team had their final round Tuesday morning at 8 a.m.  WTAW
