CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Aggieland Humane Society warned pet owners that scammers impersonate staff to demand thousands of dollars for surgery to return lost pets — executive director Katrina Ross urged victims to hang up and call the society or law enforcement. WTAW
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Since September 2024, Bryan ISD and the governor's office have been negotiating an agreement to offer property tax breaks for a $13 billion semiconductor manufacturing and research complex on the RELLIS campus. Mayor Bobby Gutierrez said this week that chancellors Glenn Hegar and John Sharp (who assured him the state would not later claim uncollected taxes) confirmed there is no risk to the district as talks continue. - ➤ Commissioner Fred Brown announced during an April 8 meeting that a vendor fair will be held on May 1 at the Brazos Center—designed to help chamber members learn how to work with local government purchasing offices—and representatives from Brazos County, Texas A&M, Bryan, and College Station ISD will attend. WTAW
- ➤ Bryan City Council chose the logos for a new water tower under construction off West Villa Maria along Chick Lane in August 2023 and set the logo placement at a council workshop on April 8. Motorists turning onto Leonard Road from John Sharp Parkway will soon see 'Birthplace of Aggieland' and those turning off Harvey Mitchell Parkway will see 'Bryan Texas' when the tower's tank is installed in August. - ➤ The Texas Department of Transportation will close lanes on the frontage roads at Texas 6 and FM 2818 today in north Bryan for rehabilitation and realignment work. Drivers should expect delays as crews adjust the lanes—please plan extra travel time. The Eagle

- ➤ Riding a three-game win streak, the Texas A&M baseball team is hosting South Carolina in a three-game series at Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park, with game two starting today at 6 p.m. — and the finale set for Saturday at 2 p.m. WTAW
- ➤ The No. 3 Texas A&M softball team will take on No. 6 LSU (today at 6 p.m. at Davis Diamond) carrying a nine-game winning streak into the SEC series. The series will continue Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m., with Saturday’s game airing nationally. WTAW
- ➤ Texas A&M volleyball team announced its 15-game SEC schedule for the 2025 season on Thursday. Head coach Jamie Morrison said the team will play seven home games and eight away matches starting on Sept. 24 at Reed Arena—promising a challenging season ahead. WTAW
