- ➤ The Texas A&M University College of Performance, Visualization and Fine Arts will host the World Shakuhachi Festival (next Thursday through Sunday), marking the instrument’s first festival in Texas. - ➤ Brazos County has a new grant program that will support alternative transportation projects. Non-profits and other organizations may apply starting April 17—eligible projects like sidewalks and shared use paths receive an 80% cost reimbursement. WTAW
- ➤ On April 8, Brazos County commissioners approved five contracts for taking over operations of the downtown Bryan parking garage, with county judge Duane Peters stating the lease from Brazos Transit District costs $1 a year— the lease will begin on April 15 and ownership transfers in 2044. Fred Brown opposed the contracts, saying that using an insurance broker raised costs while he supported hiring a local pest control company. WTAW
- ➤ At a workshop meeting on April 8, the Bryan city council approved a plan to widen Old Reliance Road — raising it three feet and adding seven culverts to reduce flooding — with $9.7 million from city bonds and federal money. The project will not increase development limits or change flood risks in the Castle Heights neighborhood — officials said it will keep existing conditions intact. WTAW
