GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The federal government pulled support for the bullet train planned between Houston and Dallas with a stop east of Bryan because the project now costs over $40 billion and is too risky for taxpayers (Amtrak will use its funds to improve current routes).  WTAW

SPORTS NEWS

  • Texas A&M women's tennis swept the SEC weekly honors for the third time this season after Lucciana Perez earned SEC Player of the Week with a tie-break win over Georgia and Lexington Reed was named SEC Freshman of the Week for the third time; the team will play in the SEC Tournament quarterfinals on Friday as they continue their strong conference run.  WTAW
  • Texas A&M baseball will host Tarleton on Tuesday night at 6 p.m. at Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park as freshman Gavin Lyons starts for the Aggies—who look to extend their six-game win streak in their seventh all-time meeting.  WTAW
  • Texas A&M softball earned its first national No. 1 ranking in program history after all four polls named the team top — the team rides a 12-game win streak with a record of 37 to 5 and will face Missouri in Columbia starting tomorrow at 6 p.m.  WTAW
  • Texas A&M’s Aicha Coulibaly was selected on Monday night by the Chicago Sky with the 22nd pick in the second round of the WNBA Draft—she averaged 13.2 points per game over five years at Texas A&M—and will join training camp on April 27.  WTAW
  • Texas A&M track & field earned three SEC weekly honors—after they showed strong form at the 44 Farms Team invitational Tuesday. Auhmad Robinson, Sofia Yakushina and Penelope Gracey won awards for running, field events and a 5,000m race—while the team will travel to Eugene for the Oregon Team Invitational on April 18 to 19 at Hayward Field.  WTAW
