- ➤ Texas A&M is hosting the World Shakuhachi Festival this weekend—after starting on Thursday with concerts and classes, more shows, competitions and 76 workshops will take place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday as over 210 visitors join the event. My Aggie Nation
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Bryan ISD school board approved spending $361,000 on new food service equipment at its April 7 meeting to replace outdated systems at Johnson elementary and update items at Bryan High and Houston elementary—this action comes as the district again had excess food service funds instead of returning money to the state. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Governor Greg Abbott appointed Karl Mooney as chairman of the Brazos County Regional Mobility Authority pending Senate confirmation—Mooney, the former College Station mayor and Texas A&M University general studies director, will lead the five-member board and serve until February 1st, 2027. - ➤ County commissioner Wanda Watson said Tuesday (April 15) that a private meeting of stakeholders met last Friday (April 11) to discuss plans for Brazos County’s new office complex located across Texas Avenue from the courthouse, which will eventually house several justice and public defender offices. In March, commissioners awarded a $50 million construction contract and a $4.5 million architect’s contract to move the project forward. WTAW

- ➤ Texas A&M’s top-ranked softball team extended its 12-game win streak after winning a doubleheader at the Mizzou Softball Stadium in Columbia on Thursday at 3 p.m. + 6 p.m. The team will finish its series against Missouri today at 5 p.m. WTAW
- ➤ Texas A&M will grow its role in racing by teaming up with the Haas Factory Team for NASCAR with Cole Custer’s No. 41 car and by putting its logo on IndyCar driver Felix Rosenqvist’s helmet for the Indianapolis 500—honoring military veterans with a special look on the No. 41 for Memorial Day weekend—after a trial run last fall.
