- ➤ Lawmakers passed SB 1962 (a bill to limit school districts' lawsuits over state performance ratings) last week, and the measure now heads to the Texas House for further debate. School leaders have remained silent out of concern that the law would reduce their ability to challenge changes and increase state education agency oversight. The Eagle
- ➤ At the Bryan ISD board meeting on April 21, the board unanimously approved Dr. Gregory Bowhuis as the new principal of Bryan High School and he said he will build on the school's strong academic traditions. The board also reviewed the results of a three-year student behavior improvement plan that cost nearly $800,000 with a specialist during the post-pandemic period. WTAW

- ➤ At Tuesday’s Brazos County commission meeting on April 22, public speakers asked for help with starting a community garden on land owned by the county south of downtown Bryan and for a program to trap, neuter and release feral cats. Because these requests were off the meeting agenda, commissioners could not respond due to state law—one speaker noted judge support for the garden plan while another mentioned a local petition drive. - ➤ Kelley Sullivan Georgiades began her service on the Texas A&M University System Board of Regents Tuesday as she cast votes on measures that authorized buying 867 acres and named the board’s leaders — an event marking her first day in a six-year term. - ➤ This week, Texas A&M officials held four meetings at RELLIS campus where they discussed plans for small nuclear power plants that could create 5,000 permanent jobs, campus land expansion, and updates on a private data center project in Bryan. - ➤ Texas A&M golfer Michael Heidelbaugh shot a 9-under 61 round on Wednesday at Sea Island Golf Club in St. Simons Island — setting a new SEC Championship opening round record — which gave his team a three-stroke lead over second-place finishers.
