CRIME NEWS

  • Bryan man Trevor Norman was arrested Thursday morning and charged with murdering a woman—authorities are continuing the investigation.  The Eagle

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The Downtown Bryan Street+Art Fair, postponed by bad weather, will take place on Sunday, April 27. Officials at Texas A&M’s RELLIS campus met in four meetings this week to discuss new projects and job creation+which could boost local growth.  WTAW

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Texas Education Agency released the 2022-23 accountability ratings after a legal battle, awarding Bryan ISD a C (77) and College Station a B (81) with both districts showing declines from previous scores due to revised testing measures. A Senate bill now in committee may limit school districts from using taxpayer funds to challenge these ratings in the future.  The Eagle

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On April 22, the Texas A&M System Board of Regents Building Committee met in College Station to review six projects — including widening Penberthy Road on the west campus, renovations at the Heldenfels lab, and facility proposals at branch campuses. Chairman Bob Albritton questioned a $53 million project in McAllen while plans for campuses in Galveston, Tarleton State, Corpus Christi, San Antonio, Fort Worth, and Texarkana remain under review.  WTAW
  • Texas A&M and its partners dedicated the BAM Range at the RELLIS campus in Bryan on Thursday, unveiling the nation’s largest enclosed testing facility for hypersonic flight, lasers and other military technologies. The 247-foot long range weighs 350,000 pounds and can fire a 15-pound projectile faster than eight times the speed of sound — it will support research on advanced defense and space exploration applications.  The Eagle

SPORTS NEWS

  • Texas A&M tennis players Theo Papamalamis and JC Roddick earned SEC honors on Thursday after coaches voted at the awards; Papamalamis earned First Team All-SEC and All-Freshman honors with a 13-7 record (including four ranked wins) while Roddick, who returned after an injury, earned Second Team All-SEC (with an 8-6 dual record).  WTAW
  • The Texas A&M track & field team—42 athletes—will travel to Rice University on April 26 at 10 a.m. for the annual J. Fred Duckett Twilight meet where they will compete in 14 women's events and 11 men's events against 21 teams.  WTAW
