EDUCATION NEWS

  • Texas A&M athletes Kaitlyn Owens and Sam Whitmarsh were named as SEC McWhorter Scholar-Athlete nominees on Monday — Owens earned a 4.00 GPA and Whitmarsh excelled in track, with nominees vying for a $20,000 award and $10,000 for 30 others.  WTAW

SPORTS NEWS

  • Texas A&M tied its program record on Saturday by having 10 players selected in the NFL Draft, including defensive back Will Lee III and offensive linemen Dametrious Crownover and Ar’maj Reed-Adams. The Aggies set a new seven-round era record for draft picks.  WTAW
  • Texas A&M baseball returns to Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park today at 6 p.m. to face Tarleton State, with the game streaming on SEC Network (and airing locally on 1150 AM/93.7 FM The Zone) as the Aggies extend their unbeaten record against the Texans.  WTAW
  • Six A&M football players were selected on Day 2 of the NFL Draft Friday night, setting a record with seven top-100 picks. Chase Bisontis, Cashius Howell, Nate Boerkircher, Tyler Onyedim, Albert Regis and Trey Zuhn III were chosen by the Cardinals, Bengals, Jaguars, Broncos and Raiders.  WTAW
  • The Aggies women’s 4x200m relay team won the title at Franklin Field on Friday with a 1:31.25 finish, recording the fastest time since 2015 and their seventh Penn Relays win (roster includes Shaheed, Montgomery, Jackson and Dickson).  WTAW
  • Texas A&M women’s tennis will face Quinnipiac Bobcats in the NCAA Tournament opening round Saturday at Mitchell Tennis Center. The team, seeded fourth overall & led by Lucciana Perez, will play at 1 p.m. after a 10 a.m. match featuring Baylor and Wisconsin.  WTAW
  • Texas A&M equestrian coach Abby O'Mara was named NCEA Dual Discipline Jumping Seat Coach of the Year as announced Monday. Her guidance led the Aggies to an 8-5-2 Flat record and first SEC Championship title — boosting them to a national runner-up finish at the NCEA Championship.  WTAW
  • Texas A&M track and field won four events at the Penn Relays Saturday at Franklin Field, setting a new school record in the men's 4x800m relay. The Aggies will return home to host the Alumni Muster May 1-2 at E.B. Cushing Stadium.  WTAW
  • Texas A&M women's basketball announced Saturday the signing of Alabama transfer Essence Cody to bolster its frontcourt + the 6-4 forward brings SEC and NCAA Tournament experience.  WTAW
  • The Texas A&M women’s basketball team announced today that LSU transfer Kailyn Gilbert is joining their roster for the upcoming season. Head Coach Joni Taylor said Gilbert brings dynamic scoring and backcourt skills that will boost the team’s performance locally.  WTAW
  • The Aggies hit four homers and 15 hits to beat Florida 8-4 on Saturday at Condron Family Ballpark. Gavin Grahovac recorded his first four-hit game as he led the offense.  WTAW
  • Texas A&M men’s tennis team will host the NCAA Championship rounds at the Mitchell Tennis Center Friday, May 1 at 1 p.m. — they will play Wagner in the first round and winners advance Saturday, May 2 at 4 p.m.  WTAW
