- ➤ A College Station man, 36-year-old Louis Anthony Hernandez, was released on April 16 after prosecutors found insufficient evidence to disprove his self-defense claim but was rearrested later that day for family violence and violating a protection order—he remains jailed with bonds of $80,000. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Dr. Susan Ballabina spoke on Tuesday, April 29 about how Texas A&M is supporting international students after 23 had their legal statuses revoked and 12 were restored. University President Mark Welsh added that final candidates for key roles such as vice president of student affairs and academic deans have been identified — guidance for faculty travel is also being reviewed. - ➤ U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins visited the Texas A&M Beef Center on Tuesday — she talked about the potential New World screwworm threat affecting beef production in College Station. The Eagle
- ➤ The Bryan City Council ended the contract with the playground design firm for Midtown Park after efforts since September 2023 to meet a $4.5 million budget (with $2 million from a private foundation) and will pursue new design options. The council also approved a revised economic incentive plan for phase two of the RELLIS data center (a 230,000 square foot project planned to employ 100 people and boost local revenue by over $23 million annually). - ➤ Texas A&M men's basketball coach Bucky McMillan announced that two new transfers—Jamie Vinson from Texas and Marcus Hill from NC State—will join the team for the 2025-26 season; Vinson saw limited minutes for Texas and Hill led scoring at NC State and earned All-MAC honors at Bowling Green. - ➤ Texas A&M men’s golf All-American Phichaksn Maichon earned a spot on Team International for the Arnold Palmer Cup, which will be held from June 5 to 7 at Congaree Golf Club in Ridgeland, South Carolina. He has performed strongly this season with wins at the Sea Best Invitational and Aggie Invitational and joins past Aggies in multiple Cup events (he helped secure a win at the Bonallack Trophy in December).
