EDUCATION NEWS

  • Texas A&M President Mark A. Welsh III announced a new leadership alignment in an email to faculty and staff on Wednesday—Joseph P. Pettibon II is named senior vice president for Strategy and Business Services while interim chief human resources officer Henry Judah becomes vice president for Human Resources and Organizational Effectiveness. The university reorganized divisions to group Finance and Business Services with Human Resources and Organizational Effectiveness to improve collaboration and decision-making.  My Aggie Nation

  • On May 1, 2025, Legends Event Center’s Mitchell Isbell and local State Representative Paul Dyson appeared on The Infomaniacs to discuss summer programming, sports camps, and legislative issues such as public school funding and AI in political ads. Brazos County commissioners approved precinct realignments on April 29 and new state representatives were teased on the House floor on April 28—actions that directly influence the local community.  WTAW
  • Lina Adams from Destination Bryan tourism office and Bill Oliver from WTAW discussed downtown Bryan’s May First Friday events — the Palace Theater is set to host the pre-party for the Troubadour Festival on May 16th. At Texas A&M, agriculture secretary Brooke Rollins said USDA spends $370 million a day on nutrition programs — and Brazos Valley Food Bank Director Theresa Mangapora urged that food banks be trusted partners if Trade Mitigation Programs are renewed.  WTAW
  • USDA Secretary Brooke Rollins and HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. toured the AgriLife Phenotyping Greenhouse at Texas A&M on Tuesday—reviewing the facility's research capabilities and its role in advancing plant science.  My Aggie Nation
  • A bill filed by Trey Wharton in February to rename part of Texas 6 after Navasota police officer Mark Butler is moving through the Legislature (lawmakers are expected to vote on it soon).  The Eagle

SPORTS NEWS

  • Texas A&M assistant coach Matt Fast was named a finalist for the Jan Strickland Outstanding Assistant Coach Award presented by TaylorMade as announced by Texas A&M Athletics. He is one of four Division I finalists and his work helped the Aggies win three tournament titles and a league-record sixth consecutive semifinal at the SEC Championship — showing his strong impact on the team.  WTAW
  • Texas A&M’s Carter Bajoit of track and field and Devon Thomas of equestrian were named SEC Community Service Award winners by the league on Thursday—each earns a $7,500 post-graduate scholarship and is a nominee for Community Service Leader of the Year, with the final selection to be announced in May.  WTAW
  • Texas A&M's Jaxon Bowshire will represent Australia at the Diving World Cup Super Final in Beijing from today until May 4 (the competition began in early April in Guadalajara), and Brazos Valley Food Bank director Theresa Mangapora said she hopes future Trade Mitigation Programs will let food banks deliver food to hungry families and seniors (a role they served before).  WTAW
