CRIME NEWS

  • Last Thursday, May 1, a 31 year old man from Killeen was sentenced by Brazos County district court to at least 180 days in prison as part of a ten year sentence for harassing and threatening a deputy, driving while intoxicated, and resisting arrest—while a 23 year old man from Caldwell was found guilty of probation violations for stealing a gun and repeatedly breaching a protection order, receiving concurrent sentences of four years and 18 months.  WTAW
  • A Bryan man, 20-year-old Kabrian Orosco, admitted to causing more than $24,000 in damage at Brookside apartments by making a false 9-1-1 call and deleting the record from his phone—photos from his device showed smashed blue light bulbs and rewiring damage, and he remains in jail on $95,000 bail pending trial.  WTAW

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Texas A&M University will award 13,016 degrees from nine commencement ceremonies set for Thursday through Saturday—undergraduates, master’s and doctoral candidates will receive their diplomas at Reed Arena and have the events broadcast live by KAMU-TV.  My Aggie Nation

  • Texas A&M head coach Trisha Ford was selected by USA Softball on Monday for the U.S. Women’s National Team coaching pool for the 2025–28 quad—she will help lead camps and training sessions ahead of international events like the LA28 Olympic Games. Ford guided the Aggies to a strong national ranking and SEC finish, highlighting her impact on the sport.  WTAW
  • Texas A&M softball earned the No. 2 seed and a double bye in the SEC Tournament held from today to May 10 at Jack Turner Stadium in Athens, Georgia—finishing SEC play with a 17-6 record and scheduled to face No. 3 Texas on May 8 shortly after game 10.  WTAW
  • The No. 2 Texas A&M women's tennis team beat the UCSB Gauchos 4 to 1 on Saturday at Mitchell Tennis Center - it advanced them to the Sweet Sixteen - and will face UCLA on Friday, May 9 at 2 p.m. as they try to reach the quarterfinals.  WTAW
  • Texas A&M baseball clinched a 6-4 series win over No.2 LSU on Sunday afternoon at Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park when Caden Sorrell hit a two-out, three-run home run in the eighth. Starter Weston Moss sealed the victory in the ninth by retiring the side in order - the win marks the Aggies' third over a Top 2 opponent and gives them a series lead of 34-30-1.  WTAW
  • The 16-seeded Texas A&M men’s tennis team advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 with a 4—3 win over Baylor at the Mitchell Tennis Center on Sunday. They will face Wake Forest in Winston-Salem on May 9 at 4:00 p.m.  WTAW
  • Texas A&M men’s basketball coach Bucky McMillan announced Monday that the Aggies added former Alabama and Kansas guard Rylan Griffen to the roster for next season. The 6-6 guard played many games last season and helped Alabama reach the Final Four—his experience is expected to strengthen the team.  WTAW
