CRIME NEWS

  • Bryan police responded to two gunfire reports on May 16 at an apartment complex off Finfeather Road west of Midtown Park and on May 17 at 4 a.m. in the area between the city cemetery and Mount Calvary cemetery, arresting 46-year-old Daniel Campbell after a handgun was found near a passenger and detaining 27-year-old Adriana Williams following medical seizures and an officer bite before she was released after posting a $14,000 bond.  WTAW
  • On May 12, 2025, Bryan man Deacon Jones pleaded guilty to assault family violence charges when he repeatedly abused the same victim in November and December 2023—his plea follows earlier convictions for domestic violence, burglary and drug possession, and he now faces a 40-year prison sentence.  WTAW

SPORTS NEWS

  • Texas A&M left-hander Justin Lamkin was named SEC Pitcher of the Week after he pitched a complete game shutout on Friday night—striking out 15 batters on 121 pitches—and he will lead the Aggies tonight as they face Mississippi State at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium.  WTAW
  • Texas A&M track & field team finished second among women with 81.5 points and fourth among men with 77 points at the SEC Championships on Saturday at Shively Track & Field Stadium—Sam Whitmarsh defended his 800m title while the team secured a total of 15 medals. The Aggies will host the NCAA West First Round at E.B. Cushing Stadium from May 28 to May 31.  WTAW
  • Texas A&M announced Monday afternoon that left-hander Ryan Prager became the first Aggie to earn the SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year honor after graduating in Finance with a 3.65 GPA & posting a 3-4 record in 14 pitching starts. Jace LaViolette earned Second Team All-SEC honors while starting all 53 games and hitting 17 home runs, marking his second season with conference accolades.  WTAW
  • The No. 2 Texas A&M women's tennis team finished as national runner-up after losing 4-0 to No. 1 Georgia at Baylor's Hurd Tennis Center on Sunday—marking a 30-4 season and back-to-back championship matches that highlight the program's most successful era. This result builds on the team's consistent performance in the NCAA tournaments.  WTAW
  • Texas A&M women’s basketball head coach Joni Taylor announced on Sunday that former SEC standout Alexis Hyder joined the staff as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. The Texas native brings elite recruiting skills from a season at Utah State—where she helped secure a strong transfer class—and international playing experience to help prepare the team for the upcoming season.  WTAW
  • Texas A&M volleyball player Ifenna Cos-Okpalla was named to the USA Volleyball U23 Pan American Cup training roster and will join 17 teammates at the National Team Training Center in Anaheim from July 18th to 25th — where 12 athletes will be chosen to represent the United States in Mexico. This is her second straight call-up to a national team after last year's collegiate selection.  WTAW
