EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ At the May 19 Bryan ISD School Board meeting, the board unanimously hired Becky Luna as principal of SFA Middle School and Tara Hunter as principal of Navarro Elementary. Luna was an associate principal at Davila Middle and Hunter, a 22-year veteran who will replace retiring Kathy Riley, will lead her school—bringing fresh leadership to the district. WTAW
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ State lawmakers passed HB 2003 that requires the Texas Central high speed rail project to share details on financing, cost estimates, construction plans, ridership projections and the proposed route for the train between Houston and Dallas. The law, introduced by Senator Lois Kolkhorst and approved in both the House and Senate, now waits for the governor's review and will help Brazos Valley landowners understand the project's status. WTAW
- ➤ On May 8, the three newest College Station council members received an update on street conditions from public works director Emily Fisher who said that city streets were rated excellent and more than $10 million was spent on maintaining 368 miles of roads. Fisher invited residents to attend a street maintenance open house on May 28 (6 until 7:30 p.m.) at City Hall to review projects planned through the 2028 fiscal year. WTAW
- ➤ Blue signs that help drivers find local attractions have been in place since 2012. At a May 8 council meeting, councilman William Wright questioned their value—Mayor John Nichols and city manager Bryan Woods discussed alternative options for the future. WTAW

- ➤ Texas A&M left-hander Justin Lamkin was named National Pitcher of the Week after he struck out 15 batters in his first career complete game shutout against No. 10 Georgia last Friday. The Aggies will return to action Tuesday night in the SEC Tournament as they face Mississippi State. WTAW
- ➤ Texas A&M Women’s Basketball added Little Rock transfer Emerald Parker to the 2025‑26 roster on Tuesday—she averaged 7.6 points and 6.2 rebounds last season and showed strong performance in the Ohio Valley Conference to boost the team’s front court. WTAW
