EDUCATION NEWS

  • College Station ISD board reviewed its upcoming budget and legislative bill HB 2 during Tuesday night's workshop. CFO Heather Wilson explained planned teacher raises but noted that non-teaching staff see no change—Superintendent Tim Harkrider and Trustee Darin Paine raised concerns—and the board will meet again on June 8 and June 17 for further budget review.  The Eagle
  • College Station ISD school board approved adding ten minutes to the end of the school day starting in August to help high schools share classes with the new career and technical education center — the vote was six to one after more than 35 minutes of talk. The extra minutes give teachers about four more workdays for planning while keeping school minutes above Texas rules.  WTAW
  • Students at International Leadership of Texas College Station K-8 built a sensor chip that will be sent to space later this year with NASA and SpaceX; the project gives them hands-on learning in science and technology.  The Eagle

  • Due to predicted inclement weather, Texas A&M postponed its SEC Tournament opening game against Mississippi State to Wednesday morning at 9:30 a.m. at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium (the game will air on SEC Network and SportsRadio 1150AM/93.7 The Zone). If the Aggies win, they will face No. 8 Auburn on Thursday morning at 11 a.m.  WTAW
  • Texas A&M baseball beat Mississippi State 9-0 in an SEC Tournament game Wednesday morning at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium with Ryan Prager pitching 5 1/3 scoreless innings—The win boosts the team's record and they will face No. 8 Auburn today at 11 a.m. at the same venue.  WTAW
