CRIME NEWS

  • College Station police arrested 23-year-old Marquise Shields — accused of three vehicle burglaries, theft of a handgun, unlawful gun possession by a convicted felon and evading arrest — after he jumped a fence on May 23 and recovered a loaded gun, cash and other property.  WTAW
  • A local non profit fighting human trafficking rescued five survivors in College Station this week through a combined effort with the Department of Public Safety, the Brazos County sheriff’s office, and College Station police — no arrests have been made.  WTAW
  • A Brazos County jury convicted a Bryan man of a 2020 murder — he was also found guilty of threatening retaliation at Bryan police officers — in a verdict reached at trial.  The Eagle

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The College Station High School Class of 2025 held its commencement ceremony on Friday at Reed Arena, marking an important milestone for the graduates.  The Eagle
  • A&M Consolidated High School held its Class of 2025 commencement ceremony on Friday at Reed Arena in Bryan. Graduates and families gathered to mark the milestone and celebrate the achievement of students.  The Eagle
  • Bryan ISD announced that principal Danielle Legg is moving to a district-level position as campus support coordinator while Amy Thomman becomes the new Sul Ross principal after serving six years at Johnson Elementary. Thomman has spent 17 years in Bryan ISD (as a teacher and administrator) and is ready to lead the Ross Raccoons.  WTAW

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Aggieland American Legion Post 1938 and the Marine Corps League Brazos Valley Detachment #1391 will hold a Memorial Day Ceremony at 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 26 at Veterans Park near the Never Forget garden to honor America’s fallen heroes — speakers include Post Commander Roy May Jr. and Roy May Sr., and the public is welcome with free lunch following the service.  WTAW
  • At the May 20 city council meeting, city manager Kean Register said that after canceling a playground design contract, the city budgeted $2.5 million and received a $2 million foundation grant to pursue a new option for the project. The council also approved a $5.6 million contract that will rehabilitate Midtown Park’s lake dam, build a lit shared path, and replace 1,000 feet of Rountree Drive — work designed to improve park facilities and contain stormwater.  WTAW
