EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ College Station ISD school board chose Dawn Newton as the new principal at Rock Prairie Elementary at a special meeting on May 27; Newton began her career in Bryan ISD and served five years as an assistant principal at Southwood Valley. She takes over after Jeff Durand transferred to Pecan Trail intermediate — Newton said she looks forward to supporting staff and students — and her 22 years in education will guide the school. WTAW
- ➤ Texas A&M's Board of Regents began its quarterly meeting Wednesday when Deloitte shared a plan to improve the A&M System & offered ideas for a new vision statement. The regents talked about the options and picked two final vision statements, and a vote will be held today in executive session with the result shared later. My Aggie Nation

- ➤ Texas A&M golfers Vanessa Borovilos, Hailee Cooper and Lauren Nguyen are competing at the 80th U.S. Women’s Open at Erin Hills today; Borovilos tees off at 6:45 a.m. and Cooper and Nguyen tee off at 12:30 p.m.—all three aim to make the cut after the first 36 holes. WTAW
- ➤ The Texas A&M track and field team began hosting the NCAA West First Round meet at E.B Cushing Stadium on May 28 and will continue competition through May 31. More than 100 schools with top-ranked athletes will compete for spots in the NCAA Outdoor Championships with results streamed on ESPN+. WTAW
- ➤ Texas A&M’s Mary Stoiana claimed one of four spots in the US Open Wild Card Playoffs for women’s singles at the USTA National Campus, where top collegiate players will vie for wild card entries. The singles semifinals begin on June 16 and the finals on June 18 — the matches will be free and streamed online. WTAW
- ➤ Texas A&M men's basketball head coach Bucky McMillan said on Wednesday that Darby Rich is back as the team's strength and conditioning coach—he worked for the Aggies from 2011 to 2019 and brings 22 years of sports performance coaching experience. WTAW
- ➤ Texas A&M men’s basketball coach Bucky McMillan added 6-foot-2 guard Pop Isaacs to the 2025-26 roster on Tuesday. Isaacs, a former standout at Texas Tech + Creighton who averaged over 14 points in three seasons, will bring scoring depth to the Aggies. WTAW
- ➤ Texas A&M’s men’s tennis doubles players Theo Papamalamis and Togan Tokac were named ITA Doubles All-Americans after finishing the season at No. 4 in the rankings (their first such honor and the 18th in team history).
