CRIME NEWS

  • College Station police requested a warrant last week for the arrest of a man accused of stealing and selling multiple firearms from an elderly couple's home.  The Eagle
  • Bryan police arrested a 29 year old former Dollar General assistant manager, Delia Serna, for illegally marking down merchandise that cost the store about $7,000 during a three-week span last April, and they also detained a 30 year old man, Lloyd Freeman, on June 4 for burglary and resisting arrest after he allegedly stole containers of freon, mowers, and boxes of flooring from a neighbor’s property (Freeman remains held on $36,000 bond and faces several pending drug trials).  WTAW

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Texas A&M System board approved the third phase of the Heldenfels building renovation. The $12 million project will update the fourth floor with 12 labs, a help desk, and office space during summer and fall—work scheduled for substantial completion next January.  WTAW
  • Brazos County commissioners postponed a vote Tuesday on extending a contract with the road bond consultant for projects approved in November 2022—new commissioner Fred Brown said he opposed the move because he had not seen the contract and disagreed with the east loop highway, a position also supported by other members.  WTAW
  • During a private city council meeting on June 4, Bryan councilman James Edge said the developer remained in compliance with the contract—giving them until September 1 to open the Midtown Park entertainment complex after previous deadlines of August 2024 and December 31, 2024. The council also approved a $2 million loan to support the project’s construction.  WTAW

  • Texas A&M Baseball announced on Thursday that former All-Big 12 player and 11-year MLB veteran Cliff Pennington has been added as an assistant coach, and head coach Michael Earley said his skills and leadership will help improve the team—Pennington returns to Aggieland with a strong local background in baseball and coaching.  WTAW
  • Texas A&M track & field’s Carter Bajoit and Heather Abadie were named to the SEC Community Service Team for their local and international service, including leading Bible studies, supporting over 300 Houstonians, and helping raise $36,000 for a mission trip to Panama—Abadie also volunteered at USATF meets and served as a team leader.  WTAW
