CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A 63-year-old Bryan man, Alton Currie, was sentenced to life in prison on June 16 after a jury convicted him of murdering his friend, James Zikus, in an unprovoked shooting in August 2020 and threatening police officers—he will serve concurrent sentences for all convictions. WTAW
- ➤ Bryan police have posted on social media asking for help finding 22-year-old Brionna Ballom, who is accused of using a gun to threaten an employee and steal an estimated $574 from a Subway restaurant near Bryan High School on June 3rd—video surveillance identified her and her car—and anyone with information is urged to call 911. WTAW

- ➤ During a special meeting on Wednesday, the Texas A&M Board of Regents approved new system leaders under incoming Chancellor Glenn Hegar. Susan Ballabina will start as executive vice chancellor on July 1, Ryan Griffin will begin as vice chancellor and chief financial officer on July 21, and Chris Bryan will serve as vice chancellor for marketing and communications (all received unanimous approval). - ➤ Chancellor John Sharp was presented the U.S. Army’s Meritorious Public Service Medal by General James Rainey during his retirement ceremony in College Station on Wednesday. - ➤ Bryan Councilwoman Marca Ewers-Shurtleff appeared on WTAW to discuss water rights, local well production, and the city budget with Scott DeLucia. Blinn College reported that district-wide spring enrollment increased to 16,076 while the Bryan campus fell 15.82 percent, with vice chancellor Becky McBride outlining ongoing efforts to attract former students—aiming to boost local enrollment.
