CRIME NEWS

  • A 29-year-old Bryan man named Roy Arevalo Jr. was sentenced to 40 years in prison under a plea deal for eight crimes including drug delivery and evading arrest — he was caught after a high-speed chase in downtown Bryan with no reported injuries and must serve at least 20 years before parole.  WTAW

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Texas A&M Athletics said 105 student-athletes made the Spring SEC Academic Honor Roll as SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey announced Thursday—this is the first time since 2022 the team topped 100 honorees—and athletes from eight sports were honored.  WTAW

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Bryan Firefighter Chris Lamb discussed summer weather and safety tips on WTAW’s The Infomaniacs (June 26th) and offered advice on firework safety, heat safety, and hydration.  WTAW
  • A new Texas law signed by Governor Greg Abbott will require warning labels on foods like chips and candies made with more than 40 additives—some allowed in other countries—even though a review shows the law misstates the status of key ingredients; food makers will change recipes or contest the rules when the law takes effect in 2027.  The Eagle

SPORTS NEWS

  • Carson Branstine, a two-time All-American at Texas A&M, earned a spot in the Wimbledon singles main draw by winning three challenging matches played in three sets at Roehampton—she will play her first main draw at the All England Lawn Tennis Club from June 30 to July 12.  WTAW
  • Texas A&M finished No. 15 overall and No. 7 among SEC schools in the final 2024-25 Learfield Directors’ Cup standings thanks to 11 top 20 NCAA finishes. The school has earned a top 25 finish for 19 consecutive seasons and Athletics Director Trev Alberts said the program will keep working to support its student-athletes—aiming to compete for future championships.  WTAW
