ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Multiple fire departments responded to a crude oil off loading terminal fire south of Kurten on July 7 as evacuations were ordered for a half-mile radius, an employee was airlifted with injuries, and firefighters prevented 6,700 gallons of crude oil from escaping the tanker—Brazos County emergency management confirmed the response involved mutual aid.  WTAW
  • Bryan High School had a fire in its basement on Monday (July 7) that drew several fire department engines, caused no injuries, and is under investigation while campus operations continue normally.  WTAW

CRIME NEWS

  • A Brazos County couple was arrested Tuesday morning at a Super 8 Motel for criminal trespass + methamphetamine possession, authorities said.  The Eagle

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Retired state representative Kyle Kacal of College Station was sworn in as acting Brazos County Judge on Tuesday, July 8th after Judge Kyle Hawthorne administered two oaths and he now serves in the county's chief role. State health officials confirmed on June 24th that the first 2025 case of West Nile fever was diagnosed in Brazos County and urge residents to take steps to prevent mosquito bites.  WTAW
  • On Tuesday morning, Judge Kyle Hawthorne administered the oath to acting Brazos County Judge Kyle Kacal at the start of commissioners court, making him the interim county judge. Kacal now handles court responsibilities until a permanent judge is appointed.  The Eagle

HEALTH NEWS

  • A resident of Brazos County was diagnosed with West Nile fever on June 24—the first case this summer, and state health officials warned that even though most people exposed do not get sick, using insect repellent, wearing long sleeves, and removing standing water can lower the risk of severe symptoms. The agency noted that past cases have shown serious complications in a very small number of patients.  WTAW

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Texas A&M women’s golf team will play in the NB3 Matchplay at Twin Warriors Golf Club on Oct. 7–8. The team will compete in a round-robin format against New Mexico, New Mexico State, and Arizona, with a final round on Oct. 8 to decide the champion.  WTAW
  • Texas A&M volleyball players Logan Lednicky and Ifenna Cos-Okpalla were named to the 2025 Preseason All-SEC Team and the team is projected to finish third in the league poll with 195 points—receiving one first-place vote Tuesday. They come off a 21-8 season and return 11 players along with a top recruiting class to build on last year’s success.  WTAW
  • Texas A&M head coach Bucky McMillan announced Tuesday morning that Dave Good has joined the men’s basketball coaching staff as an assistant coach—he spent 10 seasons on McMillan’s staff at Samford and Mountain Brook High School.  WTAW
