  • Office vacancy rates in the College Station-Bryan area stand at about 8% compared to 16% statewide—leaving few options for companies looking to relocate or expand. Dr. Daniel Oney of Texas A&M warned that the limited office market may slow future business development if more space is not added.  WTAW

CRIME NEWS

  • The city of Bryan said on July 4 that police mistakenly detained the wrong man while serving an arrest warrant on an undisclosed charge and that an internal investigation into why his brother was detained is expected to take over four weeks—police arrested a man with the same last name on July 10 but would not confirm if he is the intended target.  WTAW

  • Texas A&M Oceanography students held a livestream aboard a research cruise on Monday (showing their new tools for ocean study) that let viewers see ship research in action.  The Eagle

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, more than 10,000 customers at the Wellborn Special Utility District board meeting learn about proposed water rate increases as general manager Campbell Young details the changes. Meanwhile, the Brazos County Public Defender’s Office received three state grants totaling more than 2.2 million dollars to expand staffing for juvenile, appeals and mental health cases with funding set to continue in coming years.  WTAW

  • Texas A&M left-hander Justin Lamkin was picked by the Kansas City Royals with the 71st pick in Competitive Balance Round B and shortstop Kaeden Kent was chosen by the New York Yankees with the 103rd pick on Sunday evening at the Coca-Cola Roxy in Atlanta—continuing the Aggies' streak of having at least two players drafted every year since 1984.  WTAW
