CRIME NEWS

  • Bryan police arrested 30-year-old Jacquinton Echols on July 16 for evading arrest and illegal possession of drugs after he was seen selling narcotics + fleeing on foot, and he remains in Brazos County jail with bond set at $32,000.  WTAW
  • A Bryan woman was arrested by College Station police for driving while intoxicated—her third DWI charge—after she crashed Sunday at 1:43 a.m.  The Eagle
  • A Brazos County jury sentenced Larry Bollin to life in prison and fined him $10,000 on July 21 for murdering coworker Timothy Smith at Kent Moore Cabinets in April 2021—he faces trial in Grimes County next month on charges of wounding a DPS trooper.  WTAW
  • A Brazos County district court jury sentenced Larry Bollin to life in prison on Monday, July 21 for murdering a co-worker in April 2021—he still faces trial in Grimes County for wounding a DPS trooper.  WTAW

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Brazos County commissioners debated a change to cut public speech time from four to three minutes and share time if more than 10 people signed up at the July 15 session—however, a split vote stopped the rule from passing.  The Eagle
  • Texas A&M’s new chancellor Glenn Hegar reacted to an email from the chief academic officer by stating that A&M police will always cooperate with law enforcement efforts—he noted the plan comes after no verified immigration enforcement actions were reported against students or scholars and advised anyone with safety concerns to contact campus police. The message also reminded international employees and students of the available support offices.  WTAW
  • Two Brazos Valley state lawmakers filed bills ahead of the special session—Bryan’s Representative Paul Dyson introduced House Bill 123 to end state spending on lobbying while Representative Stan Gerdes proposed bills to limit local revenue raising and reallocate federal border protection funds to lower school district property taxes.  WTAW

SPORTS NEWS

  • Texas A&M women’s golf team unveiled its 2025-26 schedule — it kicks off with the Carmel Cup at Pebble Beach from Aug. 29 to 31 and features the local “Mo” Morial Invitational in Bryan from April 6 to 8. Head coach Gerrod Chadwell said the team will compete in key tournaments aired on Golf Channel and looks to build on recent SEC and NCAA successes.  WTAW
