- ➤ A Bryan man was charged with breaking into a woman's home last weekend (police have not provided additional details) and authorities are continuing their investigation (more information is expected soon). The Eagle

- ➤ Texas A&M’s first lady of Aggieland, Reveille X, is recovering from eye surgery after doctors removed her right eye due to signs of glaucoma. President Welsh said she is resting comfortably and is expected to return to campus activities this fall—her team is watching her progress—so she can cheer on the Aggies again. WTAW
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Brazos County commissioners will discuss terminating the design contract with Quiddity Engineering for the east loop highway study on Tuesday, July 29 at 10:00 a.m.—commissioner Chuck Konderla said the study did not promise to reduce traffic or fairly address property concerns. Acting County Judge Kyle Kacal supports the move, which seeks to shift the remaining $7 million from the $11 million contract to other road bond projects. WTAW
- ➤ Brazos County congressman Michael McCaul chairs a task force to strengthen security for upcoming national special events. At a hearing on July 22, he stressed the need for improved intelligence sharing from federal agencies to local law enforcement when events such as next year's soccer World Cup (US 250th birthday celebrations in 2026 and the 2028 Summer Olympics) call for high security. The homestand will also feature a 19-year tradition of fireworks and a bobblehead giveaway on Friday, a Miracle Night with jersey giveaways and a tribute to former pitcher Casey Whitmer on Saturday, and a Princess Night supporting Scotty’s House on Sunday (College Station city council will review a letter of intent for a move to Veterans Park in 2027).
