CRIME NEWS

  • A Bryan man was arrested Wednesday after a sheriff’s deputy checked his parked car and found he had cocaine — drug paraphernalia was discovered during the welfare check.  The Eagle
  • A 40-year-old man named Robert Lockett Jr. from Galena Park, who has ties to Bryan, was found guilty of having meth near a Bryan Head Start facility in February 2021—he now faces five felony and three misdemeanor trials from previous arrests.  WTAW

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Bryan ISD updated its policy this week to follow a state law that bans students from carrying active cell phones during school. The board will start the process to enforce the new rule in upcoming classes.  WTAW

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Brazos County commissioners cancelled their July 22 meeting to attend a meeting in Waco and had earlier extended a contract on July 15 to hire temporary employees for the expo complex and elections office. Public speaker Cynde Wiley questioned the cost and vetting process for these workers—concerns that were not addressed by the commissioners.  WTAW
  • Bryan police arrested 39-year-old Sir-Roderick Shalow after his ex-wife recorded video of him breaking into her home. Brazos County commissioners will consider ending the design contract for the east loop highway on July 29 at 10:00 a.m. due to concerns over its impact on local traffic and property owners — the design firm has been paid $4 million from an $11 million contract.  WTAW

SPORTS NEWS

  • Texas A&M baseball team earned the American Baseball Coaches Association Team Academic Excellence Award for the 2024-25 school year — marking its fourth straight win after the team achieved a 3.28 GPA. Seventeen players made the 2025 Spring SEC Academic Honor Roll and twenty earned a place on the first-year SEC Academic Honor Roll.  WTAW
