CRIME NEWS

  • A Brazos County deputy pulled over a car going 5 mph on Highway 6 at 9:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 23, near the Westward Ho exit south of College Station and detected the smell of marijuana—leading to a search that uncovered a backpack with cocaine valued at $4,000 and the arrest of 33 year old Josh Marshall Robinson, who remains jailed on a $28,000 bond.  WTAW

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • College Station city council members remain interested in a convention center-hotel complex after a 90-minute meeting on July 24 that featured a consultant report estimating a $505.6 million construction cost and a projected deficit offset by tax revenue and visitor spending. The council plans to review detailed data and may take next steps in 30 days—potential partners include Texas A&M, Bryan and Brazos County—while working to address the shortfall.  WTAW
  • Commissioner Fred Brown urged the county to apply for a share of a $100 million state grant for courthouse renovations, saying he hopes to secure $10 million to fix what he calls (the ugliest courthouse in all of the world). The Brazos County historical commission also approved Daniel Castillo and Clint Williams as new members.  WTAW
