COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Lina Adams from Destination Bryan tourism office spoke with Bill Oliver from WTAW today about local First Friday activities and the new free shuttle bus for Texas A&M home football games. Additional August events are planned to boost local tourism (more details to follow).  WTAW

CRIME NEWS

  • A College Station man was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly kidnapping a woman in July+ he reportedly threw knives at her during the incident.  The Eagle
  • A Bryan man crashed his car into an electrical pole while allegedly high on PCP and was arrested Wednesday night after police found the drug in his vehicle.  The Eagle
  • Crystal Lynn Allen, a 41-year-old from Somerville, admitted to stealing nearly all of the $260,000 in savings from a 64-year-old College Station woman and was sentenced to 20 years in prison on July 28 plus she is ordered to pay full restitution as part of a plea agreement.  WTAW
  • Bryan Police arrested three men after posting bonds following a disturbance at Whataburger south of downtown Bryan last weekend—two are charged with underage gun possession and two face charges for concealing firearms, including 18-year-old Jose Huerta Jr., who is also charged with evidence tampering.  WTAW

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A lawsuit was filed against Aggieland Country School alleging that the daycare placed a toddler outside alone on several occasions—when she cried or would not sleep during nap time.  The Eagle

SPORTS NEWS

  • Texas A&M Women’s Golf will send six players to the U.S. Women’s Amateur at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort from August 4 to 10, making them the most-represented team among top programs. Adams will be the first Aggie to tee off Monday at 9:46 a.m. — each member earned her spot through qualifiers and championship wins.  WTAW
  • Bryan has been awarded a new expansion franchise in the Mid-America Baseball League that will begin play in the summer of 2026 and will host home games at Travis Major Field. The team will engage local fans through a contest to name the club as it builds on Bryan's long baseball tradition.  WTAW
  • Texas A&M wide receiver KC Concepcion is on the preseason Paul Hornung Award watch list—an honor for the most versatile player in college football. He joined the Aggies in the spring after earning rookie honors at NC State and posted strong stats in his two seasons there.  WTAW
  • Texas A&M defensive tackle Albert Regis was named to the Allstate Wuerffel Trophy preseason watch list for his community service in Bryan and his strong play last season—he started 13 games and recorded 36 tackles and six pass breakups while also being honored on the SEC Community Service Team. The Wuerffel Foundation announced Thursday that a national voting committee and fan vote will choose the final award recipient, who will serve as Captain of the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team and be announced live on Dec. 12 on ESPN.  WTAW
