CRIME NEWS

  • Ghislaine Maxwell, Jeffrey Epstein's former girlfriend, was moved from a federal prison in Florida to Bryan Federal Prison Camp—she now remains in custody as her legal case continues.  The Eagle
  • Larry Bollin, 31 from Iola, pleaded guilty in Bryan for the April 2021 workplace shooting—he admitted to murdering a co-worker, attempting to kill five others and a DPS trooper, and will serve another life sentence with parole eligibility in 30 years.  WTAW
  • Bryan police arrested College Station man Dylan Golden—32 years old—on charges of family violence, aggravated kidnapping and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after he allegedly forced his girlfriend into his car and threatened her with a knife, and jail records show he has been booked for the 12th time since November 2011 while he is held on a parole violation.  WTAW

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Brad Stafford, Parks, Recreation, and Facilities Director, discussed preparing for the Games of Texas—covering facility use and visiting athletes—with WTAW's Scott DeLucia during his interview on The Infomaniacs on Thursday, July 31.  WTAW
  • Texas A&M is working to comply with the governor’s order banning state agencies from doing business with five countries and a foreign adversary politician. At the July 14 faculty senate meeting, compliance officer Jason Boyle said he is not optimistic about changing policies—he noted challenges in aligning with other A&M system agencies.  WTAW
  • Brazos County’s emergency management coordinator Jason Ware urged officials at the July 29 commission meeting to sign up for emergency notifications and practice evacuation plans. Commissioner Chuck Konderla shared that his family used these plans during a fire—acting county judge Kyle Kacal said state lawmakers are working to improve the alert system.  WTAW

SPORTS NEWS

  • Texas A&M punter Tyler White was named to the Ray Guy Award Preseason Watch List by the Augusta Sports Council after posting strong stats that ranked him among the top performers. The selection committee will meet in mid-November + the award winner will be announced in December on ESPN.  WTAW
  • Texas A&M kicker Randy Bond was named to the Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award Preseason Watch List Friday by the Palm Beach County Sports Commission. He was a semifinalist last season and ranked 15th nationally—making 20 field goals—and semifinalists are set to be announced on November 18 with the award winner chosen on December 12.  WTAW
