  • WTAW listeners riding their horses on Saturday, August 2 thanked a group of motorcyclists for their courteous behavior along Old Reliance Road between Bryan and south of Kurten—one motorcyclist tapped his horn to alert the group before passing quietly.  WTAW

CRIME NEWS

  • A College Station man was arrested Monday for possessing several drugs after he called for help and police responded—details about the investigation are not yet available.  The Eagle
  • On August 4 at about 12:41 p.m., deputies responded to a disturbance at Pioneer Steel and Pipe on East Highway 21 in Wixon Valley when 28-year-old Bradley Marshall tried to open the door of an occupied truck, sparking a struggle in which the customer fired shots that killed Marshall and injured himself—no arrests have been made as the investigation continues.  WTAW

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A College Station man was held in jail last weekend for animal cruelty and three teens were arrested for burglaries involving multiple vehicles. Texas A&M will name its College of Medicine for Naresh K. Vashisht at the white coat ceremony this Saturday and plan to bring pilotless Blackhawk helicopters to the RELLIS campus—funded by a $60 million state appropriation—to help fight wildfires.  WTAW

HEALTH NEWS

  • At Texas A&M’s Beef Cattle Short Course on Monday, Dr. Alberto Banuet explained that the New World screwworm is moving north from Mexico and stressed the need for clear plans to stop its spread. Dr. Thomas Lansford and panel experts advised ranchers to keep infected animals still as Banuet predicted the parasite may reach the Brazos Valley in four to six months—prompting calls for revised protocols—while cattle trade continues.  My Aggie Nation

  • Texas A&M track coach Juan “Chico” De La Garza retired after 34 seasons with the Aggies, ending his 41‐year career that helped win 10 NCAA titles—he coached athletes who set nine school records and reached the Olympics.  WTAW
  • The Texas A&M women's basketball team learned its 2026 SEC schedule on Tuesday — the season will open New Year's Day at Reed Arena with a game against Oklahoma and include six home games and eight road games against teams that made the 2025 NCAA Tournament — with more details to come later.  WTAW
