CRIME NEWS

  • A College Station woman was arrested Monday for manufacturing and delivering drugs—police found several kinds in her living room.  The Eagle

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Texas A&M Aggies soccer team was recognized for their academic success when they received the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award for the 14th time and posted a 3.40 GPA in fall 2024 and spring 2025—six players also earned additional academic honors.  WTAW
  • Benjamin Hollon, an Aggie communications major at Texas A&M, had his first short story published in the anthology Overscan on Aug. 9 and will finish his final semester soon. He plans to return to Malaysia after graduation to pursue full-time writing—his work explores science fiction themes and the effects of capitalism.  My Aggie Nation

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Last week, the Bryan/College Station Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) approved two studies; one will hire a consultant in fiscal year 2026 to address vulnerable road grade separations along University between Texas and Agronomy Road as part of a complete streets plan and the other will plan research with the Brazos Transit District for public transportation options in fiscal year 2027.  WTAW
  • On August 12, Bryan City Council approved rezoning for a $67 million luxury apartment complex at Copperfield and Boonville — reversing its June 2024 six to one vote against the project. The approval came after over two hours of public comments from 15 speakers and includes plans for 226 one-bedroom units that developers said would add up to 35 students at Sam Houston elementary.  WTAW
  • Mayor Bobby Gutierrez appeared on The Infomaniacs on August 13—discussing the fiscal year 2026 city budget for Bryan. Bryan police arrested 40-year-old Wincent Bracy Jr. on August 8 after finding one pound of marijuana, nearly $5,000 in cash, and a handgun in a neighborhood known for illegal drug sales.  WTAW
  • Brazos County commissioners approved a sheriff’s office request to apply for a $500,000 state grant created two years ago by the legislature — the funds will be used to buy vehicles and firearms, but chief deputy Kevin Stuart said the money will not fund extra positions because the grant lasts one year.  WTAW

  • Texas A&M’s soccer team opens its season today at home against Baylor at Ellis Field at 7:30 p.m.—the Aggies add key transfers and talented freshmen to bolster their lineup—hoping for a strong start.  WTAW
