CULTURE NEWS

  • This summer, teens from the Brazos County Juvenile Center painted vivid murals on skateboard ramps at Brian Bachmann Park in College Station. The Arts Center of Brazos Valley led the project, which ran two days a week for eight weeks—giving the teens a chance to express themselves.  WTAW

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Texas A&M University will host a grand opening for its new West Campus Testing Center for students with disabilities at 3 p.m. Aug. 19 in the West Campus Library—this additional site meets rising demand as accommodated exams grew from 8,994 in fall 2021 to 15,460 in spring 2025.  My Aggie Nation

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Local law enforcement from College Station, Bryan, and Texas A&M have acquired an armored rescue vehicle that SWAT teams will use during high-risk events and natural disasters. The agencies shared the cost equally — each paying 25% — to increase officer protection and support rapid search and rescue missions.  WTAW
  • Officials from the Bryan/College Station landfill agency said that expanding drilling at Twin Oaks landfill with a third-party energy company will generate nearly $3 million this year and help offset greenhouse gas emissions. They said that the closed Rock Prairie landfill will be monitored for 19 years due to unstable soil and methane gas—officials also announced a household hazardous waste collection event on Saturday, October 18 from 7 a.m.  WTAW

  • Texas A&M soccer star Kaylee Noble—who joined after two seasons at Cal State Fullerton—earned a spot on the United Soccer Coaches Preseason All-America Watch List announced Tuesday; she was named as a forward to watch.  WTAW
