ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Bryan firefighters spent 30 minutes early Wednesday morning on August 27 controlling a fire at Polaris Fun Center on South Texas that caused building damage and property loss — one firefighter sustained an ankle injury when a water hose exploded and police closed Texas south of Coulter until 5:30 a.m. WTAW
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A 19-year-old Bryan man, Juan Arredondo III, returned to Brazos County jail on August 13 to serve six months for threatening to fire a gun at a pep rally and marking his sixth jail stay since March 2023, while a Navasota man was sentenced on August 22 to ten years for evading arrest and drug charges after 8074 dollars in cash was seized. Bryan firefighters controlled an early-morning fire at Polaris Fun Center on August 27 with one firefighter injured and the city delayed action on closing the unsafe Canyon Village apartment complex until October 27. - ➤ Bryan Mayor Bobby Gutierrez appeared on WTAW’s The Infomaniacs on Wednesday, August 27 to discuss the proposed budget, tax rate, Midtown Park development, and the expansion of Legends Event Center—highlighting his plans for the city’s future. WTAW
- ➤ Brazos County has placed the design of its new downtown Bryan office complex and parking garage on hold after staff asked commissioners to consider adding a fourth floor and expanding parking. Commissioners tabled the proposal until September 9—project manager Trevor Lansdown said the addition is a cost-effective solution to address space shortfalls in existing county buildings. WTAW
- ➤ Brazos County commissioners proposed a new property tax rate for fiscal year 2025–2026 on August 26, citing lost appraised values and state legislative restrictions. A public hearing will be held on September 9th at 8:30 a.m. to discuss the proposed budget and tax rate adjustments. WTAW

- ➤ Texas A&M’s men’s tennis team has six Aggies in the ITA preseason rankings for 2025-26. Togan Tokac and Theo Papamalamis lead the doubles with a No.6 ranking—four other team members also earned singles spots. WTAW
- ➤ Texas A&M cross country will open its 2025 season Friday at the John McKenzie Invitational held at the AP Ranch Championship Country Course—where the women’s race starts at 7:30 a.m. and the men’s at 8 a.m., with TCU hosting the event. WTAW
- ➤ Texas A&M women's Golf team was ranked No.7 in the Golfweek Preseason Poll—announced Wednesday—and leads a roster featuring five golfers in the top 200 of the World Amateur Golf Ranking. The team will compete at The Carmel Cup at historic Pebble Beach Golf Links from Aug. 29–31. WTAW
