ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ On Thursday morning, a tanker backed into a BISD bus on Weaver Street causing minor bumper damage, and on Friday morning a pickup rear-ended a bus in the Benchley community at OSR highway and Trace Bend with all passengers safe—both accidents occurred after targeted traffic enforcement. WTAW
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Bryan police arrested 24-year-old Shayla House and 59-year-old Earnest Williams after leaving two young boys alone in a van in the hot sun, which led to the children being taken to a hospital for possible heat exhaustion, and a College Station father, 29-year-old Dniko Gardner, along with his 28-year-old girlfriend Octasha Dorsey, pleaded guilty to endangering a four-year-old who ingested THC — both cases are being treated as separate child endangerment incidents. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Colin Killian, Director of Public Communications, spoke on The Infomaniacs Friday, August 29, 2025 — he discussed a recreation center study, an Amazon drone facility, and plans for a new budget and tax rate. WTAW
- ➤ Texas A&M will begin construction on the $250 million Aplin Center in September—this new building will house a visitors center, prospective student center, and academic programs on the former parking lot site. It is slated to open in February 2028 and includes a $50 million gift from Arch Aplin III. WTAW
- ➤ College Station voters may consider a $65 to $80 million bond issue for a new recreation center when they vote in November 2027. At an August 28 meeting, a majority of council members supported finalizing a site—Wolf Pen Creek, the former Macy’s store, or Central Park—and planning a center with athletic, swimming, and program spaces after reviewing a 250-page consultant report. - ➤ Texas A&M men's golf team is ranked No. 20 in the Bushnell/Golfweek DI Coaches Poll and returns seven letterwinners led by Wheaton Ennis—the team will play in the Gopher Invitational on Sept 7-8 at Windsong Farm Golf Club. WTAW
- ➤ Texas A&M Aggies swept the team titles at the John McKenzie Invitational Friday morning at AP Ranch Championship Cross Country Course- the women claimed top five spots with Megan Roberts winning solo and the men were led by Gavin Chapa finishing second. This back-to-back win marks a strong start to the Aggies' 2025 campaign. WTAW
