COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Community Foundation of the Brazos Valley has opened registration for the annual Brazos Valley Gives event; nonprofits from the region must sign up by Friday, September 5 to take part in a month-long fundraiser starting Tuesday, October 21 — they pay a registration fee of $150 or $50 if eligible. Last year nearly $1.3 million was raised for 198 local agencies.  WTAW
  • Officers arrested a separated couple in Bryan after they allegedly assaulted each other at the former husband’s home on August 31 before 2 a.m. while local nonprofits must register by Friday for Brazos Valley Gives, a month-long community fundraising event set for October 21—registration fees vary based on nonprofit endowment.  WTAW

  • On Sunday night, a Bryan man was arrested after allegedly shooting at a vehicle on Texas6 — he then evaded police through town.  The Eagle

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Brooks Moore, a native of Navasota and a Texas A&M graduate, was named general counsel by the Board of Regents last week — he has served as the top deputy in the general counsel office since 2016 and worked with the Texas Attorney General’s Office.  My Aggie Nation
  • Texas A&M regents approved a new citizenship initiative to help students learn core values, government workings and public service skills. President Mark Welsh III and retired Brig. Gen. Kim Field will lead the plan featuring four pillars—character, knowledge, skills and service—with a review of University Learning Outcomes expected by December.  My Aggie Nation

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Brazos County and Bryan city officials reset fiscal year 2026 tax rates after lower property values resulted from resolving many commercial property lawsuits—Dana Horton from the Brazos Central Appraisal District said many cases now go to the new 472nd district court. Horton said residential appeals have grown over the years, with most cases resolved through informal hearings.  WTAW
