EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Texas A&M system board of regents explained that a glitch with the admissions app caused issues for prospective Aggie students earlier this year. Chris Reed said messages with an apology were sent to applicants and their parents — the board calls it a screw up.  WTAW
  • The Bryan ISD Education Foundation hosted its signature fundraiser Hometown Reunion on August 16 at Legends events center, where 900 people attended and $80,000 was collected in minutes as foundation director Sarah Braden reported on September 8—final totals are still being counted.  WTAW
  • Texas A&M student organizations held a vigil in memory of Charlie Kirk at Rudder Plaza on the College Station campus on Thursday—students gathered to reflect on his impact. The event united attendees who remembered his influence on campus life.  My Aggie Nation
  • Ray Riley retired on Aug. 31 after 42 years as the manager of Texas A&M’s Rosenthal Center—he will keep teaching Animal Science courses while a new meat science center is planned for spring 2028.  The Eagle
  • Fired Texas A&M professor Melissa McCoul filed an appeal and plans legal action after a video from her children's literature class showed her lesson matched the approved course description—her lawyer says she was never told to change her class content and that the firing broke her rights—and supporters claim the move hurts free speech.  My Aggie Nation

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Yesterday marked the 100th anniversary of Central Church at Boonville and Elmo Weedon Roads—Bryan mayor Bobby Gutierrez read a proclamation at a city council meeting on September 9. City manager Kean Register, who has served for over 25 years, announced his retirement effective November 3 to allow a smooth leadership transition in Bryan.  WTAW
