EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Texas A&M fired Professor McCoul on September 8 after a viral video showing a student questioning her course content led state officials to demand her termination. Faculty and advocacy groups have since challenged the decision—warning that it undermines academic freedom in classrooms across Texas. The Eagle
- ➤ The Texas A&M Student Government Association sent a letter on Wednesday supporting President Mark A. Welsh III and defending his leadership after he disciplined faculty—over 100 current and former student leaders signed it and addressed it to Chancellor Glenn Hegar and Regents Chairman Bob Albritton. - ➤ The College Station ISD board voted unanimously on September 16 to update elementary school attendance boundaries for the 2026-27 school year—this change includes a grandfathering option for current K-3 students and their siblings, with families having 30 days to decide. - ➤ Texas A&M golfer Aaron Pounds earned SEC Golfer of the Week recognition after winning the 2nd Swing Gopher Invitational on Wednesday—he made five birdies in a row to finish with a 2-under 69 and share medalist honors with two others. His win helped his team claim the first-place trophy at the season-opening tournament. WTAW
- ➤ Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko was named the Paul Bear Bryant and Dodd Trophy National Coach of the Week after he led the Aggies to a close 41—40 win over No. 8 Notre Dame. The win marked their first road victory over an AP top—25 team since 2014 and was decided on a 4th—and—goal play with 13 seconds left. WTAW
- ➤ Texas A&M women's tennis team unveiled its 2025-26 nonconference schedule with head coach Mark Weaver saying they will host two matches in one day at Mitchell Tennis Center on Jan. 16 and Jan. 18. The team will also join the ITA Kickoff Weekend on Jan. 24 to Jan. 25 and play away games in California and Illinois for more matches later in January and early February. WTAW
- ➤ Texas A&M Aggie volleyball team returns home to host Southeastern Louisiana, New Hampshire, and Loyola Marymount at Reed Arena for the Invitational starting today — with matches running through Sept. 20 while the team, fresh off a five-game winning streak but recently losing tight contests against SMU and TCU, sees Maddie Waak leading them in assists.
