COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Yesterday, the Community Foundation’s Brazos Valley Gives early donation period began to support 200 nonprofits in seven counties with a $1M goal. The event will continue with 18 hours of online giving on Tuesday, October 21 as donors and businesses unite—strengthening local charities.  WTAW

CRIME NEWS

  • The recent killing of conservative firebrand Charlie Kirk at a Utah university is prompting Texas A&M Police to review campus security procedures following his April visit and coordinate with regional agencies to learn from Utah Valley University’s practices—though no specific changes have been made yet.  The Eagle
  • Texas A&M Kappa Sigma fraternity operations were suspended after a hazing investigation ended on September 22nd—officials said they will review the case further.  My Aggie Nation

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Texas A&M’s soccer team lost 1-0 to No. 10 Arkansas on Sunday—both teams struggled for scoring in a tough match. Departing President Mark Welsh posted his farewell message on Friday—thanking colleagues and students as he prepared to step down.  WTAW

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Brazos County emergency services district 1 held a groundbreaking for a new fire station west of Wellborn on Koppe Bridge Road on September 19. When completed in winter 2026, the station will have dorm rooms, meeting spaces, and a building for four fire vehicles—expected to cut response times from 20 to 10 minutes on most calls.  WTAW
  • Downtown Bryan will get new holiday lights and decorations after a unanimous city council vote on September 9, with city funds covering the $69,000 first phase. The plan moves the lighted Christmas tree from Sale Park to city hall—adding a 50-foot tree with a light and sound show and festive decor along Main Street.  WTAW

SPORTS NEWS

  • Texas A&M Football will honor its 1975 Southwest Conference co-championship team by wearing throwback uniforms on Saturday, October 11, in its SEC matchup against Florida at Kyle Field — the team will reintroduce the iconic Trefoil logo on-field in collaboration with Adidas. This gesture celebrates a memorable season led by coach Emory Bellard and invites fans to join in the tribute.  WTAW
