Here's your local news at a glance for Wednesday, the 1st of October.
Good morning, Bryan.
Texas A&M was named the top public university in Texas by the Wall Street Journal College Pulse Rankings for 2026, its third year in a row as the best state school.
It ranks 12th nationally and is recognized for strong academics & career readiness.
Simon North has been named interim dean of Texas A&M's College of Arts and Sciences—he will start his duties today.
College Station City Council supported asking Texas A&M, Bryan and Brazos County if they are interested in a joint public-private partnership to redevelop Hensel Park into a mixed-use site with a multipurpose arena that may host Texas A&M basketball games — local developer Hunter Goodwin and Legends Global presented the plan at a September 29 meeting.
Brazos County commissioners honored auditor Katie Conner for 30 years of service as she retired Tuesday (marking her notable career) and gave her a tearful farewell.
At a Sept 25 meeting, College Station city council heard realtor Jodi Warner report that the market is short on affordable homes as less than 10% of August sales were under $200k while median prices climbed.
Warner also noted that listings in Bryan, Snook, and Navasota and sharp shifts in local College Station neighborhoods like Eastgate and Edelweiss point to a tightening market — a challenging sign for first-time buyers.
Trey Zuhn III, the Texas A&M offensive lineman, was named to the Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year Watch List because he shows strong leadership on and off the field—he is a two-time team captain who also helps in the Bryan and College Station area.
Twenty semifinalists will be chosen on Oct 14 and three finalists will be picked on Dec 15 before the award ceremony.
