BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Roxanne Orsak—an Aggie with 37 years at H-E-B—will become the next president of H-E-B stores, making her the first woman to lead the chain since 1905; she will start her new role in January 2026. WTAW
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ A century-old building in north Bryan has reopened as The Kimbell Cultural Event Center—offering art shows, event space and a rooftop area. Co-owners Cassidy Barton and Kristy Petty worked with the city council on the renovation, and the grand opening took place on October 3rd alongside Bryan’s First Friday 20th anniversary. WTAW
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Texas A&M and state leaders gathered in College Station on Friday to break ground on the new Aplin Center — marking the start of its campus construction. The Eagle
- ➤ The Texas A&M System Board of Regents unanimously selected Tommy Williams as the interim president after nearly two hours of meeting on October 3, and he will lead the campus while the board searches for a permanent leader. Williams is an Aggie with years of public service experience as a former state senator & lobbyist. WTAW
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ College Station city staff has asked the council to review a plan for a baseball complex valued between $55 and $60 million that would include a 3,800-seat stadium, eight turf fields, and an integrated academy for junior college students. The proposal asks for at least $15 million and 80 acres of land and will be discussed on October 9. WTAW
- ➤ Kyle Kacal, who has been serving as acting judge, is running to be Brazos County judge—he said he is ready to serve as an elected official and strengthen local government. The Eagle
- ➤ Motorists on the Aggie Expressway saw a new sign naming a stretch of Highway 249 for Doug Pitcock Jr.—an Aggie engineering graduate and construction company founder—on October 2. The sign was unveiled by the lieutenant governor and a Texas Transportation Commission member during this year’s legislative session. WTAW

- ➤ Texas A&M won 1-0 when Trinity Buchanan scored in the 68th minute at Ellis Field during the Cotton Holdings Lone Star Showdown—where the team held a strong defense against Texas. The Aggies had more shots and corner kicks and kept the Longhorns from scoring until near the end of the game. WTAW
- ➤ Super Bowl champion Eli Manning visited Aggieland today on his TV show, Eli’s Places, to highlight traditions at Texas A and M with former Aggie Martellus Bennett (he learned about campus yells). The episode airs on ESPN and shows Manning exploring iconic campus spots (including historic landmarks and student-led cheers). My Aggie Nation
- ➤ The Aggie Yell Leaders will wear black uniforms for today’s Texas A&M football game vs. Mississippi State as part of Operation Blackout—an A&M official confirmed the change aligns with the football team’s all-black look. - ➤ Texas A&M track & field has released its 2026 schedule with six home meets in Bryan and College Station and travel contests set in Lubbock, San Antonio and Philadelphia—each key event like the SEC Indoor Championships on February 26—28 and the NCAA Outdoor Championships on June 10—13 is planned to boost the season. The team will compete at these meets as it works to build on past successes. WTAW
