EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Nearly 5,000 Aggies will receive their class rings at Aggie Ring Day on Oct. 17-18. The Eagle
- ➤ Glenn Hegar, the new chancellor at Texas A&M, faced controversy for firing a professor and said he will review courses across the system—he explained the move is meant to secure state funds and give students a good education. My Aggie Nation
- ➤ The No. 16 Texas A&M men’s golf team finished third at the Marquette Intercollegiate after recording a round of 1-over 289 on Tuesday with Aaron Pounds leading the team. Texas A&M announced a 16-member search committee—consisting of board members, faculty, and community leaders—to guide the selection of its next president, and the committee will begin stakeholder input in the coming weeks. - ➤ Texas A&M Athletics said the 2025-26 men's basketball schedule will have nine games on ESPN as part of an SEC and ESPN deal. The university formed a 16-member search committee to choose its next president and will soon gather input from stakeholders — a step to guide Aggies into the future. WTAW
- ➤ New traffic signals are activated in the WJB Parkway construction zone as Bryan police officer Seth Waller asks motorists and pedestrians to be cautious at the intersection with Coulter — his warning comes amid changes that may affect normal travel. - ➤ Brazos County district judge Kyle Hawthorne will not seek re-election in 2026 as he retires after nearly 40 years in law. Assistant district attorney Jennifer Hebert has announced her candidacy to fill the vacancy. WTAW
- ➤ Bryan Mayor Bobby Gutierrez presented City Manager Kean Register with a mayoral proclamation Tuesday in honor of his upcoming retirement – Register’s long service will be celebrated as the city prepares for his transition. The Eagle
- ➤ Bryan City Council has approved the design of Midtown Park's signature playground — a $4.2 million project that is $300,000 under budget and will take 15 months to build. The project will be funded with a $2 million foundation grant and $2.5 million in city funds for phase one. WTAW

- ➤ The Texas A&M women’s basketball team will host its third annual Biscuits and Baskets event on Oct.18 at Reed Arena—doors open at 9:30 a.m. and fans can get breakfast biscuits and autographs at 10 a.m. before open practice begins. WTAW
- ➤ Texas A&M women’s tennis team begins competing in the ITA Texas Regional Championships today at TCU’s Friedman Tennis Center through October 14. Five Aggies take the court as Anna Perelman and Avery Esquivel start qualifying matches today while the other three play in the main draw and doubles pairs will be set after qualifiers—Kupres and Smetannikov have strong past records.
