GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Texas A&M System and Last Energy announced plans to build a 5-megawatt pilot microreactor on the RELLIS campus that will begin testing in summer next year; the reactor is fully financed with private capital, licensed by the U.S. Energy Department and set to eventually generate grid electricity — local officials have praised the initiative as a key step in advanced energy innovation. - ➤ The proposed trolley service connecting downtown Bryan to College Station is on hold because officials have not finalized its route, operating hours, or funding. Brazos Transit District CEO Wendy Weedon said the Federal Transit Administration's grant execution was paused due to the recent government shutdown — leaving the project awaiting further commitments. - ➤ The Bryan City Council approved a new economic development area at the RELLIS campus during a special meeting on Oct. 14 to attract business prospects.
