EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ At the October 20 board meeting, Bryan ISD school board approved a $73,970 contract to install new signs at eight elementary schools using funds from a 2020 bond issue following deputy superintendent Brian Merrell's recommendation—saving $50,755 from the budget; plans for a marquee sign at Fannin remain under review by the city’s historic landmarks commission. SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ The Texas A&M men’s basketball team won 98-68 on Monday night at Reed Arena giving coach Bucky McMillan his first win with the team and his 100th career coaching victory— the team will face Texas Southern on November 6 at 7 p.m. at Reed Arena. WTAW
- ➤ Texas A&M’s Cashius Howell was named a semifinalist for the Lombardi Award—an honor for top college defensive players—and he leads the SEC with 9.5 sacks this season. The award ceremony will be held on December 10 and will benefit cancer research. WTAW
- ➤ Texas A&M Athletics released the first 2025 College Football Playoff ranking Tuesday and placed the Aggies at No. 3—the highest rank in school history. The team is 8-0 for the first time since 1992, is 5-0 in conference play, and will travel to Missouri Saturday at 2:30 p.m. on ABC. WTAW
