CRIME NEWS

  • Joe Ruiz, a 39-year-old Bryan man, was sentenced on May 8 to 20 years in prison for using his Mercedes as a deadly weapon in a March 9 incident outside a downtown Bryan bar that injured several people — two critically — and he must serve at least ten years before becoming eligible for parole.  WTAW
  • A former Bryan resident was booked on Monday for threatening a Texas A&M employee 23 times between April 17 to 19 and remained jailed on a $30,000 bond due to previous stalking charges—while a Bryan driver stopped Tuesday for a broken taillight and running two stop signs was arrested on ten warrants including probation violations, mail theft, evading and resisting arrest, and drug possession.  WTAW

  • At Brazos County commission meetings, judge Duane Peters responded on May 6 to critics of the future east loop highway while opponents offered more than 40 minutes of comments on May 13 when Peters was absent—Commissioner Fred Brown urged a public hearing and the comment period stays open until May 23.  WTAW
  • Brazos County law enforcement held the annual memorial service at Veterans Park on Wednesday to honor 147 peace officers who died serving their communities last year.  The Eagle

  • The No. 12 Texas A&M men’s golf team earned a bid to the NCAA Championship next week after finishing runner-up at the Auburn Regional with a 4-under 284 score at Auburn University Club—Aaron Pounds led with a 2-under 70 as his teammates posted strong rounds to secure the spot.  WTAW
  • Texas A&M pitcher Grant Cunningham was named to the SEC Baseball Community Service Team as announced Wednesday morning — an honor recognizing his work with youth practices and patient visits — and he posted a 3.48 ERA in six appearances this season.  WTAW
  • Texas A&M women's basketball announced the addition of Wichita State standout Salese Blow to its 2025-26 roster—Coach Joni Taylor said she is a high-volume scorer who led in minutes at Wichita State—and she becomes the sixth new player joining the team this offseason.  WTAW
  • Texas A&M Baseball will conclude its regular season today with a three-game set at Foley Field against No. 10 Georgia starting at 5 p.m. CST; game two will be on Friday at 5 p.m. and the finale on Saturday at 11 a.m.—the Aggies hold a 15-8 lead in the all-time series.  WTAW
  • Texas A&M track & field team opens its outdoor postseason campaign today at the SEC Championships held at Shively Track & Field Stadium. The Aggies, ranked No.2 for the men and No.4 for the women, set six new school records and won 81 events in the regular season—adding strength to their competition outlook.  WTAW
  • Texas A&M’s No. 2 women’s tennis team—holding a 28-3 record and having reached the Elite Eight four times—is set to play the No. 10 Tennessee Volunteers today at 4 p.m. at Baylor’s Hurd Tennis Center in the NCAA quarterfinal as they aim for the national semifinals.  WTAW
